Swedish med Papegojan (= Swedish with the Parrot) is a website for you who wants to revise and study basic grammar rules in Swedish on your own. You can also use this website as supplementary grammar materials on a language course. You can revise som specific grammar topic or go through all the topics.
Swedish med Papegojan includes the most essential grammar rules in Swedish and exercises. The vocabulary used in the exercises consists of frequently used words, but also terminology and expressions that are useful if you study at a university of any kind.
The grammar and the instructions of the exercises are in English.
A website for you who wants to learn the basics of Swedish on you own. This site is made for newly arrived and asylum seekers in Sweden, but is also suitable for others.
Please keep in mind that the pronunciation is taught according to dialects in Sweden, which differ a lot from the pronunciation of Swedish dialects in Finland. In your daily life it does not matter which dialect you speak but it is good to know that there are big differences.

Svenska akademiens grammatik (SAG) is the official standardized grammar of Swedish. SAG is suitable for you who has advances skills in Swedish and is familiar with grammatical terms. The grammar contains a detailed description of the spoken and written Swedish language with focus on common features. SAG uses mostly traditional terminology and consists of four volumes: 1 Inledning, bibliografi, register (introduction, bibliography, directory); 2 Ord (words); 3 Fraser (phrases); 4 Satser och meningar (sentences).

With Yle Språkskolan - Yle Kielikoulu you can study Swedish (and Finnish) by watching Yle's media content with subtitles. If there is a word you don't understand you can click on it and get a translation in your preferred language. Here you will find content in Finland Swedish.
For subtitles in Swedish, you can get support translations in 26 languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Azeri, Bosnian, Bulgarian, English, Spanish, Greek, Croatian, Kurdish (Arabic and Latin spelling), Mandarin, Pashto, Persian, Polish, French, Romanian, German, Serbian (Cyrillic and Latin spelling), Somali, Finnish, Thai, Tigriniya, Turkish, Ukrainian and Russian.
For subtitles in Finnish, you can get support translations in 14 different languages: Arabic, Kurdish, Persian, Turkish, English, Swedish, Somali, Russian, Estonian, Chinese, Thai, Ukrainian, Vietnamese and Polish.
On the website Kotisuomessa.fi (Finnish, means "At home in Finland") you can study Swedish from zero. There are three different levels, a lot of themes and different test materials.
In the LingoClip app you fill in the correct words while you listen to contemporary music or sing karaoke. You can listen to three songs every day. There are four levels, from beginner to expert.

Writing
Self-study materials to support and improve your writing skills in Swedish.
Skrivjouren (= Writing on-call duty) is a video series for you who speaks Swedish fluently but needs help with writing.
The videos are in Swedish with Swedish subtitles available.
Orka plugga (= have strength to study) is a video series about many different themes. The series about writing (in Swedish) has may good videos about different genres: lab report, report and summary, for example. The series is suitable for you if you have language skills enough to write texts within these genres in Swedish.
Other relevant themes are for example reading strategies and criticism of sources. You will find them in the menu just above the videos.
The videos are in Swedish with subtitles available in Arabic, English, French and Swedish.

Useful channels and programs for you who wants to improve your understanding of spoken Swedish. We have listed for example news in simple Swedish, podcasts, radio channels and TV-channels.
News in simple Swedish (Finland Swedish) made in Finland.
Svenska Yle is the department which produces news and other content in Swedish at the state-owned public service broadcasting channel Yle. Svenska Yle covers news in Swedish on TV, radio and the internet with focus on the Swedish speaking parts of the country in form of regional news in addition to the national topics.
Svenska Yle also produces for example learning material, documentaries, podcasts and TV-series. There are two radio channels in Swedish: Yle Vega and Radio X3M. Take a look and have fun!
Svenska Yle's website is only available in Swedish. Swedish audio-visual content usually has subtitles in Swedish and/or Finnish.
Vetamix is a site by Svenska Yle with learning materials for people of all ages. Vetamix has texts, videos and material related to the Finland's high school matriculation exams. The frontpage (feed) usually consists of material about topical themes and festivities.
The material is mostly in Swedish.
Yle Arenan is Yle's streaming service, free of charge. It contains both Yle's own productions and purchased productions: movies, series, documentaries, podcasts, radio theatre and audiobooks (for example Tove Janssons Moomin-books read by herself). You can watch certain live streams and Yle's TV-channels through Arenan: Yle TV1, Yle TV2 and Yle Teema-Fem. You can also watch som of the programs that have been broadcasted on TV earlier.
Yle Arenan has two main pages: one in Finnish (Yle Areena) and one i Swedish (Yle Arenan). They are built somewhat different based on language-related foci but both sites have the same content. The Swedish Yle Arenan emphasizes Nordic content and content made in Swedish by Svenska Yle. Audiovisual content usually has subtitles in Swedish and Finnish.
You can use Yle Arenan without creating an account. If you want to create an account you get to save your favorites and continue watching where you paused later.
There are a lot of Finland Swedish journals, magazines and periodicals - more that you probably expected! The organization Förbundsarenan manages a website with (almost) all Finland Swedish journals, periodicals and magazines and basic information about them.
There is something for everyone: literature and poetry enthusiasts, nurses, archipelago-lovers, students, visually impaired teenagers, political movements, Christians, lawyers, fishermen, children, different regions and so on.
Many of them are magazines for members of a certain association (hobby or professional context), so in addition to something nice to read you might find yourself a community.
There are quite a lot Finland Swedish newsapaper, at least one per region. Some of them are not daily anymore but all of them also publish news articles online. Lätta bladet publishes national news in simple Swedish.

Material for you who want's to learn or learn more about the Swedish dialects in Finland.
The free online courses in Finland Swedish. The first one starts from level zero, the second is a continuation course and the third is specificly for librarians. You need to create an account and sign in in order to participate. The language of instruction is English.

With Drops you can study Swedish in English from start to advanced levels. You learn through games and other interactive methods. You can try Drops for one week for free and after that you pay per year.
With Duolingo you can learn Swedish in English, Arabic and Spanish. You learn by games and other interactive methods and the focus is on vocabulary and phrases. Duolingo is free of charge with ads. They publish new languages and new languages of instruction every once in a while, so you might be able to study Swedish in other languages in the future.
